Reviewing what the Green Bay Packers’ defensive depth chart could look like heading into training camp of the 2020 season.

The Green Bay Packers’ defense hopes to take a step forward in the 2020 season. They started last season with a bang, whimpered throughout the middle part of the schedule and finished on a strong note. Consistency will be the key this time around.

For the past couple weeks, Dairyland Express has been projecting what their depth chart will look like at each position heading into Training Camp. As of now, the NFL is still supposed to move forward as planned with the entire team reporting by July 28. Whether that actually happens is another story.

For now, let’s review their defense from top to bottom including the starters all the way down to long-shot practice squad candidates.

The Packers’ defensive line has a few question marks. Of course, stud Kenny Clark is still there, but there are no proven players after him. They’ll need the likes of Dean Lowry and Tyler Lancaster to bust out of their 2019 slumps. A full projection is here.

Green Bay should have no issues getting after the quarterback this season. Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith return to form one of the top outside linebacker duos in the NFL. Even better, last year’s top draft pick, Rashan Gary, should be better than ever. Who will be their fourth outside linebacker though? Let’s find out.

One of the Packers’ weaknesses this year projects to be at inside linebacker. Blake Martinez is gone and they’ve brought in the oft-injured Christian Kirksey to replace him. If Kirksey goes down again (he’s only played in nine total games the last two seasons), they’ll be relying upon a bunch of unproven guys. Find out who will be the main backup here.

At cornerback, Jaire Alexander has future star written all over him. He took a great step forward in 2019 and has all the tools to take another one this season. Kevin King is also coming off the best season of his career. After those two, there are plenty of question marks at the position. Here’s the full positional projection.

The safety position appears solid at the top with Adrian Amos and second-year pro Darnell Savage Jr. The return of Raven Greene as a hybrid inside linebacker/safety should be a positive development as well. They sorely missed him after he went down with an injury early in the 2019 campaign. Check out the full preview here.
