A boost on offense

This would of course be a major upgrade to the lineup if Moustakas comes back to the Milwaukee Brewers. Moose adds another lefty bat and a lot more power to the lineup. In addition, there would no longer be the idea of a Cory Spangenberg and Hernan Perez platoon at second base with Shaw now there to fill the role.

Just imagine how potent this lineup would be:

CF Lorenzo Cain

RF Christian Yelich

1B Jesus Aguilar

3B Travis Shaw

LF Ryan Braun

C  Yasmani Grandal

3B Mike Moustakas

SS Orlando Arcia

Pitcher

If the Milwaukee Brewers made this move, the lineup would then have SIX players that have the potential to hit 25 or more home runs. Not only that, they would solidify themselves as the best lineup in the NL Central, the best lineup in the National League, and possibly a top-three lineup in all of baseball.

Offensive production is something that the Milwaukee Brewers have loved more than anything. Even when pitching is seen as a need, the Brewers will end up getting another bat. This is what makes the Moustakas acquisition more realistic.

Worries about the defense?

One of the big worries, when it came to bringing in Moustakas, was the defense. It’s not like Shaw played bad at second base, but compared to Spangenberg and Perez, the utility players are better defenders.

However, if the Brewers do make this deal soon, Shaw won’t be practicing a position he’s never played before in the middle of the season as he did in 2018. Shaw will have a month and a half to work out at a position he now has played before and will most likely feel more natural going into the season at second.

Shaw may not have the range that most second basemen do, but with the Brewers using the shift, it won’t end up being that big of an issue.
