Understanding the incredible nature of Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers has been phenomenal in the first three games of the regular season. Throwing for 10 touchdowns, 771 yards, and acquiring a 135.5 passer rating, the Green Bay Packers quarterback has already begun his MVP campaign. Even more incredible is his streak without an interception at home.
The last time Rodgers threw a pick at home was Dec. 2, 2012 against the Minnesota Vikings.

That was 19 games and 580 passing attempts ago. While the essence of Rodgers is nearly impossible to capture, the elements that make Rodgers incredible can be categorized into four basic categories. The quarterback is intelligent, athletic, surrounded by talent, and possesses a calm demeanor. When combined, these qualities define one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
Intelligence
Perhaps the most important aspect on the list, Aaron Rodgers is intelligent. He understands the game and he uses his knowledge to destroy defenses. Described by some as a surgeon, Rodgers is able to dissect defensive schemes and make appropriate adjustments in a split second. He recognizes the objectives of the defense, and he is able to analyze effective routes for his receivers.
The opportunities that Rodgers sees and the plays that he creates are truly incredible, and that is a direct result of his intelligence.

Athletic Ability
Describing Aaron Rodgers as athletic may appear to be an overtly obvious statement, but the term acts as an umbrella for a wide array of skills. Rodgers possesses three athletic skills that make him one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league. His arm strength is insane; he can hurl the ball down field for a Hail Mary and make it look easy. His precision is off the charts.
Balls are thrown into pockets that should not exist with Rodgers at the helm. Throws that should be intercepted find their way into a receiver’s hands simply because the California native has pinpoint accuracy. Finally, his ability to escape the pocket is invaluable.
By using his feet, Rodgers extends plays, and he is able to scan the field to find the best receiver for the ball, or scramble for the first down.
Calm Demeanor
Aaron Rodgers is not easily rattled. Green Bay could be losing by three touchdowns, and the camera would capture Rodgers with a straight, nondescript facial expression. His refusal to show any anxious emotions works to his advantage. Remaining calm in even the most desperate situations allows Rodgers to stay in control.
Quarterbacks are often the leaders of the roster and if the leader is upset or concerned, the team imitates those emotions, something that is counterproductive. Additionally, opposing teams thrive on the negative emotions of the quarterback. If a team were to cause Rodgers to react, they would be able to use it to their advantage.
By maintaining a calm demeanor, Rodgers stays in command and is able to continue to work towards victory.
Supporting Cast

Obviously Rodgers is an excellent quarterback, but he does have a strong supporting cast at his disposal. Yes, the loss of Jordy Nelson was disappointing, but Rodgers still has reliable weapons in his arsenal. James Jones and Randall Cobb both have experience and an undeniable chemistry with the quarterback, something that does not exist between every receiver-quarterback combo.
Davante Adams, Ty Montgomery, and Jeff Janis may be young, but each has shown flashes of brilliance and could be important for Green Bay’s future. Similarly, the tight ends, Richard Rodgers, Andrew Quarless, and Kennard Backman, all provide Rodgers with sizable go-to targets.
The receiving corps may be damaged this season, with Nelson out, and Adams and Quarless fighting injuries, but Rodgers still has a talented group supporting him.
Aaron Rodgers continues to dazzle the NFL with his unbelievable performances. Using his intelligence, athletic abilities, calm demeanor, and supporting cast, Rodgers is able to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
While there is plenty of football left this season, Rodgers certainly has made a case to win consecutive MVP awards, and be categorized as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.
