Another MLB debut on tap
With Wily Peralta on the disabled list and his turn in the rotation due Tuesday, the Brewers are going to audition another prospect against the Pirates, making three consecutive major-league debuts in that spot in the order.
Tyler Wagner made his debut for Milwaukee on May 31 against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Miller Park, getting knocked out after just 3.2 innings after allowing five runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts. The Brewers went on to win that game 7-6 in 17 innings.
Tyler Cravy was next, taking a hard-luck loss after allowing just a run on four hits over seven innings, with two walks and six Ks, in a 1-0 defeat at St. Louis on June 2.
On Tuesday, it will be Taylor Jungmann’s turn (Tyler, Tyler, Taylor, really?). The 13th-ranked prospect in the organization according to MLB.com, Jungmann is 2-3 with a 6.37 ERA and 1.517 WHIP in 11 appearances, nine of them starts, at Triple-A Colorado Springs (where pitchers go to live through their own personal hell).
In 59.1 innings, Jungmann has struck out 54 batters and walked 29 while surrendering two home runs.
He was 12-10 with a 3.57 ERA and 1.308 WHIP last season, split between Double-A Huntsville and Triple-A Nashville.
He takes on left-hander Francisco Liriano (3-4, 3.24 ERA). Liriano is 6-4 in 13 career appearances, 12 starts, against the Brewers, with a 4.14 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 67.1 innings. It will be his first start this season against Milwaukee.
Liriano has won his last two decisions, including a 5-2 win at San Francisco on June 3 in which he allowed just a run on four hits over seven innings, walking one and striking out six.
