Three steps to perfect Green Bay Packers’ trade deadline
In order for the Green Bay Packers to hit a home run at the trade deadline, these three steps must be accomplished.
The NFL trade deadline is officially upon us, as all deals must be made before 3 pm CT today (Tuesday, November 3). That puts a lot of pressure on the Green Bay Packers to get a deal done and improve their chances of winning a Super Bowl this season.
The Packers have reportedly been exploring their options at wide receiver, including interest in Houston Texans’ wide receiver Will Fuller (more on him later), but haven’t yet pulled the trigger. Throughout general manager Brian Gutekunst’s campaign, he’s seemingly been in on a number of deals for game-changing players, but has never been able to finish. We’ll see if that’s any different this time around.
With just a few hours before the trade deadline, let’s map out a perfect scenario for Green Bay to win now.

Green Bay is in direct competition with a number of the top teams around the NFL to improve at the deadline in a push to win a Super Bowl. We’ve already seen a number of teams at the top acquire talented players. The Tenessee Titans traded for cornerback Desmond King, the New Orleans Saints acquired inside linebacker Kwon Alexander, the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired linebacker Avery Williamson and the Seattle Seahawks acquired outside linebacker Carlos Dunlap. Green Bay better hope their competition doesn’t get any better on trade deadline day.
2. Acquire Will Fuller for a third-round pick
As I mentioned, the Packers’ interest in Fuller has reportedly been ramping up, as they desperately attempt to upgrade their passing offense. Outside of Davante Adams and Allen Lazard, this position group brings very little to the table on a week-to-week basis.
Fuller is set to become a free agent at the end of this season and everybody knows he wants out of Houston. These two factors depress his value and allow Green Bay to steal him for a third-round selection. Fuller brings true speed to the Packers’ receiver group and a legit second option behind Adams. It would also allow Lazard to thrive as the third receiver and take this offense to the next level. The worst-case scenario is he walks in free agency, but the Packers would recoup a compensatory fourth-round pick in 2022 if they don’t’ sign anyone else at the position.
1. Trade a second-round pick for Quinnen Williams
The Packers desperately need help on the defensive line where they get bullied game after game. There may be a number of defensive linemen they could target, but Quinnen Williams is at the top of that list. He can play alongside Kenny Clark and (almost most importantly) knock Dean Lowry to a permanent spot on the sidelines. He’s good against both the run and pass and will suddenly take on blockers to open up the linebackers behind him. Yes, it’s a lot of draft capital to give up, but Green Bay has a couple of extra fourth-round picks coming in 2021 to help soften the blow.
