More from Green Bay Packers

Justin McCray was a jack of all trades last season. Filling in for multiple injured players, he performed very admirably during his 13 games played (eight starts) in 2017. Not only that, but he was forced to play in positions he wasn’t accustomed to playing.

Originally signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2014, McCray made his first career start in Week 2 last season in place of injured right tackle Bryan Bulaga. The previous two seasons, he played in the Arena Football League for the Orlando Predators and Tampa Bay Storm. The Packers must have liked what they saw after last season’s performance, as they re-signed McCray to a one year deal on March 12.

Some people believe McCray should be the starting right guard when the Packers open the season on Sep. 9 against the Chicago Bears. If I was a betting man I’d give McCray more than a fighting chance, especially since Green Bay hasn’t re-signed last year’s starting right guard Jahri Evans. McCray will have to compete against recent draft pick Cole Madison, but should have the edge going into training camp.
