Milwaukee Bucks Rumors: Reported Interest in Jordan Clarkson
As the 2022-2023 NBA season slowly arrives, there are more rumors to sift through. The Milwaukee Bucks have been continually been looking to improve their roster, reportedly making an offer for Eric Gordon and also having interest in Kevin Durant. The newest Bucks rumor revolves around a bench piece that could make an immediate impact.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Brett Siegel, the Milwaukee Bucks have an interest in Utah’s Jordan Clarkson.
"“Clarkson has generated the most interest thus far with the Memphis Grizzlies, Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors said to be teams with initial interest following Rudy Gobert’s departure earlier this offseason, sources told Fastbreak.”"
Siegel also mentions that the Jazz are looking to move on from Bojan Bogdanovic and potentially Mike Conley in addition to Clarkson. It is apparent that the Utah Jazz are in full rebuild mode and are having an all-out fire sale after trading away Rudy Gobert and, most recently, Donovan Mitchell.
Clarkson was the 2020-2021 Sixth Man of the Year recipient and has shown to be an effective scorer throughout his career, especially in his last three years playing for the Jazz. Clarkson had a slight dip in his efficiency last year, as he shot 41.9% from the field and 31.8% from 3 on fairly high volume.
Adding Clarkson to the Bucks would offer an immediate boost to the Bucks bench that desperately needs help, as Milwaukee finished 13th out of the 16 playoff teams in bench scoring per game.
An offer for Clarkson would be fascinating to see. Would the Bucks give up on Grayson Allen after only one very productive year? Would the Bucks trade MarJon Beauchamp before he even plays an NBA minute?
The Jazz want young talent and draft picks, and unfortunately, the Bucks don’t have much of either. A package of George Hill and Jordan Nwora would most likely not cut it. Personally, I don’t feel comfortable giving away either Allen or Beauchamp in a deal for Clarkson.
Allen was highly productive in the regular season, and his production in the playoffs only dipped after the injury of Khris Middleton. I would like to see Beauchamp play NBA minutes before the Milwaukee Bucks consider trading him.
Credit to the Bucks for looking for ways to improve the roster, but I am not sure there is a realistic trade for Clarkson that makes this work for both sides. We will have to wait and see if this rumor progresses as the season nears.
