As the NBA offseason continues, trade rumors continue to swirl. With the Milwaukee Bucks’ limited young players, short supply of draft capital, and tight finances, naturally not many of these rumors have mentioned the Bucks.

Today, however, it was reported that the Milwaukee Bucks made an offer to the Houston Rockets for guard Eric Gordon before the 2022 NBA Draft, according to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, who covers the Rockets,

"“But in addition to the 76ers,” said Iko, “the Rockets received offers from no less than six teams before the draft, including the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns, who offered packages including first-round picks. Houston turned all of those down.”"

Iko mentions that until talks fell apart, the Philadelphia 76ers were Gordon’s presumed landing spot.

In his 14th NBA season last year, Gordon averaged 13.4 points per game and shot 41.2% from 3 on 5.4 attempts per game.

Early in his career with the LA Clippers and the New Orleans Pelicans, Gordon was an all around scoring threat but injuries sapped some of his athleticism. Gordon has made a living for himself off of being a great spot up shooter, as he has shot above 37% from 3 in his career.

In 2019, Gordon signed a four year, $75.6 million extension to stay with the Rockets.

Gordon’s extension makes it hard to imagine what trade package the Milwaukee Bucks could have offered for him. Gordon is making about $19.5 million this coming season, according to Spotrac, so any potential deal for him would almost certainly have to involve Brook Lopez, who makes almost $14 million next year, and another piece or two to match salaries.

It is hard to believe the Bucks would trade Lopez for a guard when the Bucks are already so short on big men. The fact that the Bucks included a first round pick in this deal is equally as surprising. A first round pick and Lopez for a guard who is marginally better than Grayson Allen does not seem like a wise move.

Whether or not the Milwaukee Bucks still have interest in Gordon is yet to be reported. Gordon would certainly help the Bucks bench unit score, as the bench ranked 13th out of the 16 playoff teams in scoring these past playoffs.

It will be interesting to see if the Rockets’ asking price for Gordon changes as the offseason continues and if the Bucks remain interested.
