4-Star LB Tackett Curtis Chooses USC Over Wisconsin Football
By Paul Bretl
One of the top 2023 recruits left on the Badgers’ board has decided to commit to USC instead of the Wisconsin football program.
Tackett Curtis is a 4-star prospect from Many, Louisiana. Recently, the 6’2″ – 218-pound linebacker listed Wisconsin among his top-three schools, along with USC and Ohio State.
In addition to Wisconsin, Ohio State, and USC, Curtis had 43 other offers, including from schools such as Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Michigan, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, and others.
He is ranked as the 121st prospect in this 2023 class by 247Sports, as well as the seventh-best linebacker overall and the sixth-best player in the state of Louisiana.
Curtis put together an incredibly dominant junior season that included 103 total tackles, 12.5 of which were for loss, according to Max Preps, along with one sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
The Wisconsin Football team currently has 13 commitments in their 2023 class, which ranks 48th in the nation and 13th in the Big Ten. While the Badgers do have fewer commits than all but three teams in the conference — which does affect the rankings — this class isn’t nearly as strong from a rankings standpoint as the previous years have been.
Tyler Jansey is the one linebacker commit that the Badgers have in this incoming class. He is a 3-star prospect from Illinois and ranks 74th nationally at the position.
The Wisconsin Football team is experiencing some major turnover at the linebacker position in 2022.
At the linebacker position this season, the Badgers will have some big holes to fill with both Jack Sanborn and Leo Chenal heading for the NFL. Wisconsin also lost Mike Maskalunas as well. Returning upperclassmen will be Tatum Grass, Maema Njongmeta, Jordan Turner, and Ross Gengler. Everyone else on the roster will only be in either their first or second seasons.
After a red-hot May and early June on the recruiting trail, things have cooled down for the Badgers as of late, but with only 13 commitments locked in for 2023 at this point, more will surely come over the next few months.
