NFL free agency is near, so as we continue on with my Re-Sign or Let Go & Prediction series, up next is Green Bay Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas.

In this series, I have been taking a look at each of the Packers’ unrestricted free agents, discussing why Green Bay could bring them back, why they could let them sign elsewhere, and at the end, I’ll predict what I think happens.

Why the Green Bay Packers will re-sign Rasul Douglas

Well, for starters, he was really, really good while he was with the Green Bay Packers. In fact, I think it’s safe to say that the Packers do not win 13 games if they never make that addition.

With Jaire Alexander sidelined, the Packers were in need of stability at one of the game’s most important positions, and Douglas provided that. According to PFF ($$), Douglas allowed a completion rate of 51.5% on 66 targets and just 10.6 yards per catch. He also came away with five interceptions, including a pair of pick-sixes, seven pass breakups, and had a passer rating of 46.3 when targeted.

Douglas paired with Alexander and Eric Stokes would give Green Bay one of the best cornerback trios in football–not to mention that it would give them the flexibility to move Alexander around more knowing they have Stokes and Douglas on the boundary.

One other reason to re-sign Douglas is that the cornerback room is incredibly thin right now and is actually a major need. After Stokes and Alexander on the depth chart are Kabion Ento, Kiondre Thomas, and Shemar Jean-Charles, who combined, have 38 career snaps.
