The Green Bay Packers haven’t put a lot of stock into their inside linebacker position in recent years and it’s left them in a bit of a conundrum at the position.

Two years ago they let Blake Martinez walk in free agency and replaced him with veteran and oft-injured Christian Kirksey. The’ve already moved on from Kirksey after a disappointing season and have more question marks at inside linebacker. As it stand, they are looking at undraft free agent Krys Barnes and 2020 fifth-round pick Kamal Martin manning the position next season. Although both players flashed in their rookie years, there are plenty of question marks surrounding the game. That could lead Green Bay dipping their toes into free agency and trying to sign a linebacker on the cheap.

The Green Bay Packers should target any of these three inside linebackers in free agency to bolster the position for the 2021 season.

Malcolm Smith

With a couple of young guys at the position, the Packers could target a veteran player to take on more of a mentoring role and fill in as needed. Malcolm Smith has been around the NFL for nine years and has played for five teams in the last four years. Although his best playing days are behind him, he could provide some cheap and much-needed depth for Green Bay.
