With a number of top defensive coordinator candidates already off the market, Green Bay Packers‘ head coach Matt LaFleur is sure to conduct a thorough and extensive look for one of his top assistants. Here at Dairyland Express, we’ve listed 10 total candidates to be aware of as well as three fan-favorites. Now we are here to take a look at three potential candidates to avoid.

It’s absolutely imperative that LaFleur hits on this hire. His tenure could be defined by it. Now that we’ve removed all pressure, here are three guys the Packers should remove from their list.

The Green Bay Packers would be wise to stay far away from these three potential candidates for their open defensive coordinator position.

Defensive coordinator candidate to avoid 3: Mike Smith

With the Packers choosing not to renew Mike Pettine’s contract, it’s natural some might gravitate toward internal coaches as potential replacements. And it’s easy to target Mike Smith, the outside linebackers coach. Smith has been with Green Bay for two years and the outside linebackers have seen a huge explosion (it also timed with an influx of new talent). However, it’s time for LaFleur to get away from any Pettine disciples.
