Here is a recap of the free agent targets this offseason for the Green Bay Packers at key positions of need.

On March 18th, the NFL free agency period for 2020 will begin and while we won’t see the Green Bay Packers be as active as they were a year ago, there are certainly some positions that they could address with free agent signings.

Last offseason with huge holes at safety and edge-rusher, we saw GM Brian Gutekunst make three big free agents signings to address those needs, along with the addition of Billy Turner at guard. Unfortunately this year, Green Bay has less spending power with just under $22 million in available cap space at the moment according to Spotrac.

And while there are moves that they can make to free up more room, such as cutting Jimmy Graham and trading Lane Taylor, overall the Packers still have less financial flexibility in 2020.

However, just because they have less money to spend, doesn’t mean that there aren’t holes to fill. In fact, I would argue that there are six positions that one way or another need to be addressed this offseason.

So over the course of the last few weeks, I’ve put together three free agent targets at each of those positions, while trying to keep in mind that Green Bay may not make a splash signing this offseason as they did just a year ago. And if you’ve missed any of it, you can find those players below.

Tight End

This position flies a bit under the radar in terms of need, but right now the Green Bay Packers are lacking depth. As I mentioned above, Jimmy Graham will likely be cut and Marcedes Lewis is a pending free agent. So that leaves Jace Sternberger and Robert Tonyan – assuming he is brought back as an exclusive rights free agent – as the Packers’ 2020 tight ends.

While both have shown flashes in the passing game and that they are willing blockers, they are still young and playing a difficult position. A veteran presence could help provide some stability to that group.

Wide Receiver

I don’t think that I have to go into much detail here as we all know that this is clearly a major need for this team. And although this year’s draft class is incredibly deep at the position, the Green Bay Packers should still consider exploring free agency in addition to the draft.

Given their salary cap restraints, I don’t see the Packers signing Amari Cooper, so I provided two more cost-effective options, along with one pipe dream candidate. Click here to learn more.

Inside Linebacker

Another no-brainer for the Green Bay Packers to address this offseason and given the lack of high-end talent in the draft at this position, if they are going to spend in free agency, this isn’t a bad position to spend it on. However, they must remain cost-conscious, so I provided three options at three different price tags. Follow this link to see who they are.

Interior Defensive Lineman

While the Green Bay Packers’ defense as a whole was much improved, their run defense was a major liability. And sure, addressing the inside linebacker position will help this, but finding Kenny Clark some help on the interior will do wonders. Cornerback

This position like tight end is one that may fly under the radar to many. However, the Green Bay Packers are in need of depth and a player, or even two, that can step on the field and not be a total liability.

While they have a very good core with Jaire Alexander and Kevin King, not to mention that we saw the emergence of Chandon Sullivan last year, after those three there are just too many question marks. Tramon Williams is a free agent, Josh Jackson rarely saw the field, Tony Brown was cut during the season, and they still don’t know what they have in Ka’dar Hollman.

Whether it be in free agency or in the draft, the Packers need to add a player or two to this position. To take a look at three potential free agent targets, click here.

Tackle

For a number of years now the Green Bay Packers have had one of the best tackle duos in the league protecting Aaron Rodgers. However, now that Bryan Bulaga is a pending free agent, they have a huge hole to fill at a premier position in this league.

Although receiver and inside linebacker are receiving much of the attention this offseason, given that Bulaga is a free agent and that I don’t think the Packers have a viable replacement currently on the roster, this is priority No. 1 at the moment.
