Milwaukee Brewers 2017 New Year’s Resolutions
By Tim Muma
Please, please, please commit to younger players with a potential future with the Milwaukee Brewers. Yes, we all want to win, but if you’re choosing between a veteran 4th outfielder and an early-20s power bat, go young.
There shouldn’t be too much of this going on in 2017. The biggest issue last season was giving countless starts to Kirk Nieuwenhuis over Domingo Santana and Keon Broxton.
Nieuwenhuis may still get too many at-bats over the course of this season, but since he likely won’t have a .953 OPS at home again, there will be less of an excuse.
Elsewhere on the field, the Brewers are in youth mode. Ryan Braun is about the only veteran out there, and he’s a special talent, so there’s not issue there.
The mound is where some veteran versus youth debates may really come up. With hurlers Matt Garza and Chase Anderson in tow, there will need to be discussions on how much they’re used and in what roles.

It’s difficult because, ideally, they could start early in the year, pitch well and become trade assets. But with Wily Peralta, Jimmy Nelson, Zach Davies, and other young arms in the minors, it may create some interesting decisions.
Regardless of how it happens or who is involved, it will be tremendous to witness continued growth on the club.
It certainly feels like everyone is on the same page and understands what is going on with the Milwaukee Brewers. A few New Year’s resolutions as focal points can’t hurt any.
