The Green Bay Packers have a short week, as they host the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football.
While the Packers are dealing with several injuries, including cornerback Bo Melton, EDGE Micah Parsons spoke with the media on Tuesday and is confident heading into the NFC clash. He was asked if facing a quarterback like Jayden Daniels forces defenses to pick and choose how they rush the passer, but Parsons isn't changing his thought process.
"We’ve got horse engines now. I don’t see anybody outrunning me from the edge,” Parsons said, per Ryan Wood of USA Today.
Packers' Micah Parsons Isn’t Changing His Mindset for TNF
Daniels is a dual-threat QB for Washington, and teams can't defend him like they do some other QBs. The LSU product owns a quick release but will step up and run if pass rushers overcommit and open up rushing lanes.
Despite that, Parsons isn't going to change his play style. He believes in himself and thinks he will consistently beat the man lined up across from him. Parsons did acknowledge that Daniels will break some runs, but the main thing is limiting those and not letting it happen regularly.
The Packers came out in Week 1 and played stifling defense. They held the Lions to 246 total yards and 3.8 yards per play. Detroit scored 13 points, but the last touchdown came with 55 seconds in the fourth quarter, as the game was already wrapped up.
Parsons is still ramping this up as he's dealing with a back injury. In the season opener, he still played in 30 defensive snaps (81%) in the win. It didn't take long for the Penn State product to get into the backfield either, as he took down Jared Goff for his first sack in Green Bay. It's the type of success the Packers envisioned having after they traded with the Dallas Cowboys.
And the 26-year-old has been successful in his career against the Commanders, logging 23 solo tackles and 10.5 sacks in eight career games versus Washington, which includes 4.5 sacks in 2024 alone.
Parsons knows what it takes to get into that backfield and take down Daniels. And from the way he's talking, he's looking to do so again in this outing against Washington. He isn't worried about Daniels' rushing ability if pass rushers overpursue, but they still need to keep that in mind.
