Packers Pleasant Surprises: Rudy Ford

There was an open competition for the Packers’ starting safety spot alongside Darnell Savage this preseason that included the likes of Rudy Ford, Jonathan Owens, Anthony Johnson, and others. However, it was Ford who won out in the end.

Ford is currently dealing with a calf injury, but has not only been the best Packers’ safety when he’s on the field, he’s been one of the best defenders. He has no issue coming up to the line of scrimmage to provide run support. His 48 tackles rank second on the team. He’s also second in pass deflections (four) and leads the team in interceptions (two).
