Continuing on with my review of the Green Bay Packers undrafted rookie class is UAB offensive tackle Kadeem Telfort.

In this series, I have been examining the current state of each UDFA’s respective position group and taking a closer look at the stats you need to know from their time in college. I’ll also be diving into their measurements when applicable and then concluding a pre-draft scouting report for added perspective.

Current state of offensive tackle position group

On the roster: David Bakhtiari, Jean Delance, Caleb Jones, Yosh Nijman, Kadeem Telfort, Luke Tenuta, Rasheed Walker, and Zach Tom

The Packers are set up well at the offensive tackle position for the 2023 season. David Bakhtiari will be the left tackle, while there will be two capable starters in, Zach Tom and Yosh Nijman, competing this summer for the starting right tackle position.

A year from now, there will be a lot more uncertainty around this position, with Bakhtiari potentially being a cut candidate and Nijman being an unrestricted free agent. However, the Packers appear to be preparing themselves for some potential turnover at the position as they continue to develop young talent, with Caleb Jones, Luke Tenuta, and Rasheed Walker all having “another year to grow,” as offensive line coach Luke Butkus said recently.

With those three players, the Packers seem to be taking the same approach with them as they did with Nijman, who was a 2019 undrafted rookie that didn’t see significant playing time until his third NFL season in 2021. Making the roster is going to be a tall task for Telfort, but the practice squad is in play.

Stats to know

Telfort had 1,671 career snaps at UAB, most of which came over the previous two seasons and just about all of them at left tackle. In 2021, he allowed two sacks and nine pressures. This most recent season, Telfort gave up one sack and nine pressures, according to PFF ($$). He also held his own as a run-blocker, ranking 40th out of 200 eligible offensive tackles by PFF’s grading system in 2022.

Measurements

6’7″ | 322 | RAS: 1.59

From a Relative Athletic Score standpoint, where the majority of Brian Gutekunst’s draft picks have scored 8.0 or higher, and you can count on one hand how many scored below 5.0, the addition of Telfort seems a bit out of left field for a team that clearly prioritizes athleticism. Or perhaps he could be Green Bay’s next Caleb Jones, who measured in at 6’9″ – 370 pounds coming out of Indiana in 2022 and posted a RAS of 1.88.

Pre-draft scouting report

"“Strengths: Long, nasty college left tackle who projects to the right side. Quickly sets up off the snap, keeps his feet moving, and immediately gets his hands into defenders. Displays footwork off the edge, jolts defenders with terrific hand punch, and rides opponents from their angles of attack.“Arm length is a shade under 36 inches. Powerful, blocks with a nasty attitude, and keeps his head on a swivel. Drives opponents off the line or squares into defenders and seals them from the action.“Weaknesses: Doesn’t sink his butt at the line of scrimmage and must do a better job bending his knees as well as playing with leverage. Lacks quick footwork and lateral range in pass protection.“Overall: Telfort is a massive lineman with the size, dimensions, and power to play on the right side. He’s a bit of a project, yet he’s worth stashing on a practice squad.” – Tony Pauline, Pro Football Network"
