The Green Bay Packers will have a new starting quarterback next season.

Jordan Love replaces Aaron Rodgers who was traded to the New York Jets. The hope is Love can take the baton handed to him by Rodgers and continue the Pack’s 31-year run of great quarterback play.

Love certainly has his work cut for him.

It is still unknown if he can live up to the lofty expectations since he has one career start. He was not good in that game.

He did flash some potential last season when he relieved Rodgers during the Philadelphia Eagles game.

One component of Green Bay’s legendary quarterback play is dominating the Chicago Bears.

Brett Favre went 22-10 against the Bears during his time as Packers’ starting quarterback. Rodgers owned the Bears with a 24-5 record. Favre and Rodgers flipped the series record in the Green Bay Packers favor and helped the franchise overtake Chicago for the most all-time NFL wins.

Bears fans are hoping Jordan Love does not continue the tradition of Packers quarterbacks owning Chicago.

Even if Love’s career ends up in the Hall of Fame, the Bears faithful are hoping they finally have a quarterback who can beat the Green Bay Packers.

Justin Fields is the quarterback Bears fans are putting their faith in.

The Bears have started 35 quarterbacks during the Favre and Rodgers era. 20 of them started games in Packers vs. Bears. Jay Cutler made the most starts during that era and only won two games.

The hope is Justin Fields fulfills his potential and flips the rivalry in the Bears’ direction.

He showed tremendous playmaking ability last season.

He was dangerous with his feet when he gained over 1,000 yards last season. Fields still has a ways to go as a passer.

Fields tends to hold onto the ball way too long and takes unnecessary sacks. He is inaccurate at hitting his check-down receivers (or sometimes does not even see them). Fields still must get better at reading defenses.

Also, he is not a winner right now with five career victories in his two NFL seasons. To be fair, the talent around Fields was not good enough to win a lot of games.

He has flashed enough potential from the pocket for Bears’ general manager Ryan Poles to stick with him as the quarterback of the future.

Poles spent the offseason trying to upgrade the talent around Fields.

He traded the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers for wide receiver D.J. Moore and additional draft picks.

The Bears now have Moore, Chase Claypool, Darnell Mooney, and rookie Tyler Scott in their wide-receiver room. That is a lot of playmaking ability and an upgrade from what Chicago trotted out last season.

He signed guard Nate Davis and drafted right tackle Darnell Wright to upgrade the Bears’ porous offensive line. The Bears added running back D’Onta Freeman too.

Fields now has enough pieces around him to thrive. It is up to Fields to do his part. Even if he does, will the Chicago Bears be a threat in the NFL?

Then again, if Fields plays to the level Jalen Hurts did in his second season in Philadelphia, it could be enough of a boost to get the Bears near a final wild-card spot.

You have to remember Fields is technically in his second year as a starting quarterback because his rookie season was wasted by the team’s previous coaching staff. He did not start right away, he was limited by injuries, and the coaching staff refused to alter the game plan to fit his strengths in his inaugural season.

Fast forward to the present where Fields is entering his second season in offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s system. The former Green Bay Packers assistant is impressed with Fields’ growth this offseason.

Fields does have MVP potential. So did Jay Cutler and he could never beat the Packers. It will be interesting to see if Justin Fields takes the rivalry back to Chicago’s favor or if it will be just another Bears quarterback who does not live up to the hype.
