The Badger State is the essential daily (Monday-Friday) newsletter about the state of Wisconsin sports, including updates about the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, and more.

We may not have a resolution to the Aaron Rodgers fiasco, but we at least know where he stands. Also, the Wisconsin Badgers know their next opponent in the NIT.

Aaron Rodgers Finally Shares Decision

Rodgers went on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday and was surprisingly drilled with questions by McAfee and ex-Packer A.J. Hawk. The duo did a nice job asking pointed questions and hitting on the topics fans wanted to hear about.

The biggest takeaway from the appearance is that Rodgers wants to play for the New York Jets next season. He shared he told the Packers and Jets that a few days ago and is waiting for the situation to be resolved.

Trade compensation is likely what’s holding it out. New York has now moved all their chips into the middle for Rodgers, and their fans expect it. It will be chaos if they don’t acquire him. General manager Brian Gutekunst is likely using that to his advantage to hold out for rightful draft compensation. Green Bay isn’t in any hurry to get a deal done so we’ll see how this plays out.

Packers’ Free Agent News

The Packers officially re-signed Keisean Nixon and Tyler Davis, while also adding long-snapper Matt Orzech as well. Allen Lazard also tweeted a goodbye to the Packers and their fans, signaling his deal with the Jets will become official.

Wisconsin Men’s Basketball’s Next Opponent

Wisconsin didn’t make the NCAA tournament as hoped, but they blew out their first NIT opponent. Their next game will be on Sunday against Liberty and will be broadcast on ESPN. The time is still to be determined.
