The Green Bay Packers have to make a trade to save their season. Right?

The trade deadline is quickly approaching–November 1st at 3 pm central–and Green Bay has an under .500 record with an extremely tough slate of games staring them directly in the face. A few teams have already begun to make moves while the Packers’ front office sits on their hands.

If they want any chance to save this season (and there are legitimate questions about whether they should sell at the deadline) they have to make a trade as soon as possible. Here are five trade candidates they’ve already been connected to via the rumor mill.

The Green Bay Packers have been rumored to be linked to a trade with these five players with the deadline looming early next week.

Mike Gesicki, TE, Miami Dolphins, Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Denver Broncos

The natural thought is that the Packers would target a wide receiver in any trade. However, they need to improve their pass-catchers across the board and a tight end could get the job done. ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported one of his sources told him the Packers could do just that at the deadline.

Despite suiting up for every game this season, Robert Tonyan hasn’t returned to his pre-injury self. He has just 30 receptions for 251 yards and one touchdown through the first seven games. Green Bay also has Marcedes Lewis, Josiah Deguara, and Tyler Davis at tight end so any trade would make it likely one of them gets the boot. Mike Gesicki and Albert Okwuegbunam are two players who could be available.

A.J. Green, WR, Arizona Cardinals

Graziano also connected the Packers with an actual receiver, veteran A.J. Green. Once upon a time, Green was an elite downfield threat who struck fear in the hearts of opposing secondaries. Father Time and injuries have sapped that from him. It’s been five years since he’s posted a 1,000-yard season and he’s on pace for the worst season of his career (10 receptions for 56 yards and no touchdowns through five games). I’m not sure how he’d help Green Bay either.

Jerry Jeudy, WR, Denver Broncos

A younger, better receiver to which the Packers have been connected is Jerry Jeudy of the Denver Broncos. Denver is struggling worse than Green Bay and currently sits at 2-5. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported this interest, but it would cost the Packers a Day 2 pick. Jeudy is a former first-round pick who has never been able to get going in the NFL. Maybe a change of scenery would help him, but he’s unlikely to move the needle too much if acquired.

Brandin Cooks, WR, Houston Texans

Fowler also reported Green bay could have an interest in Brandin Cooks. Cooks is far and away the best player on this list and would have the biggest immediate impact. He continues to get traded and continues to put up 1,000-yard seasons. Unfortunately, his salary ($18 million guaranteed next season) would make it virtually impossible for the Packers to trade for him.
