Green Bay Packers losing streak is keeping franchise from this record
By Todd Welter
The Green Bay Packers are in a free fall.
They have dropped their last three games and are 3-4 on the season. They have a showdown coming up in Buffalo when they face the Bills on Sunday Night Football.
There is a very real chance the Green Bay Packers will be 3-5 when the calendar turns to November. The Packers are a mess right now.
They blew a 10-point lead against the New York Giants in London. The New York Jets throttled Green Bay at Lambeau Field. Taylor Heinicke and the Washington Commanders squeaked out a win over the Packers at FedEx Field.
Green Bay’s offense is struggling to get going.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still trying to adjust to life without Davante Adams. Receivers are struggling to catch the ball. The Packers had a top-10 offense last season. The Packers are currently 20th in average yards per game.
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has struggled to get the ball into Aaron Jones’ hands. After Adams was traded, Jones immediately became the Packers’ best playmaker. Jones has just 17 carries and 12 receptions in the last two games.
That means the best weapon Rodgers has on the field has touched the ball 29 times. During the Packers’ three-game win streak, he touched the ball 52 times.
The biggest issue for the Packers is they are struggling to score points. Green Bay is averaging 18.3 points a game. That is good for 23rd in the NFL. The Packers’ average last season was 26.5.
Green Bay’s defense is getting shredded by the opposing team’s run game. The Packers are currently in the league’s bottom 10 in stopping the run.
The season was not supposed to start this way and it is costing them being the all-time winningest franchise in the NFL.
The Green Bay Packers entered the season just one win behind the Chicago Bears for the most franchise wins in the NFL. The Packers even had a possible shot of passing the Bears against them in Week 2 at Lambeau Field. That went out the window when the Pack lost to the Vikings and the Bears stunned the 49ers during the NFL’s Opening Week.
Still, it was just a matter of when and not if the Packers would pass the Bears. The Bears are going through a rebuilding season and are expected to win no more than seven games. The Green Bay Packers entered the season with NFC North title hopes and a chance to finally get to the Super Bowl after 12 years.
Green Bay’s finally tied the Bears with a victory over the New England Patriots
Then the three-game losing streak happened. The Bears re-took the lead in franchise victories with a 33-14 win over New England on Monday Night Football. The Chicago Bears did not just squeak out a win over the Patriots as the Packers did. They dominated the Patriots.
Legendary head coach Bill Belichick even admitted Bears rookie head coach Matt Eberflus outcoached him.
The Packers will still likely finish the season with the all-time franchise win top spot.
The Green Bay Packers are struggling but the Bears still have talent issues. The Bears also play a tough schedule the rest of the season.
They have to go to Dallas this Sunday. Chicago will be on a short week and its offensive line does not have a lot of answers for Cowboys star defender Micah Parsons. The Bears also have to face the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, and the Bills.
There is a return matchup against the Packers at Soldier Field down the road. Rodgers plays well in Chicago. Some would say he owns the Bears in Chicago.
The Packers have a difficult schedule as well. They get the Cowboys, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Tennessee Titans, and the Vikings at Lambeau. After the Bills game, the only tough road game the Packers have is the Dolphins and Eagles.
While both teams are dealing with offensive line issues, the Packers still have Aaron Rodgers. If he can get back to playing at an MVP level, Green Bay should have the No.1 spot on the all-time franchise win list once the season ends.
