War is raging over Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be seen yelling at the sidelines multiple times during Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the Washington Commanders. The message: “What are we doing?”
There might have been some other expletives in there as well, but that appeared to be the gist of his questioning.
Many analysts–real or perceived–have been asking the same question of Rodgers since the game, as it’s safe to say the back-to-back MVP hasn’t lived up to any level of expectations through the first seven games of the season.
Everyone and their mom has strong feelings about Aaron Rodgers’ play during the Green Bay Packers’ three-game losing streak.
Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday for his weekly appearance and made some controversial comments. “Guys who are making too many mistakes shouldn’t be playing. Gotta start cutting some reps. Maybe some guys who aren’t playing, maybe give them a chance.” He also discussed the number of mental errors the Packers were making and that it’s been higher than ever.
Perhaps, his most contentious statement came about his own play and has set the Twitter world on fire. He told McAfee, “This was my highest graded game by Tom (Clements, the quarterback coach), which people may be surprised to hear.” This comment came with a laugh at the end and could very well have been dipped in sarcasm.
Rodgers hasn’t played with the same crispness we’ve seen from him since Matt LaFleur became the head coach. He’s missing easy throws, not diagnosing defenses and not accurately getting the ball downfield. It’s been a mess all around.
His remark about his play has sparked a heavy debate among Packers’ twitter analysts. Critics have called Rodgers out for not being a leader and outright accepting the responsibility for the team’s offensive struggles. Some are calling for him to take the blame instead of placing it solely on others.
Others have said his teammates don’t have any problems with his comments to the public. Rodgers sometimes likes to stir the pot; that could very well be what he’s been doing. What he’s saying in the locker room is much more important to the team.
At least on social media, the Packers appear to be falling apart. It’s nearly impossible to know what’s happening in the locker room; only time may tell. Let’s hope they are a lot more put together than we are right now because there is a lot of bickering. The Packers are running out of time to figure this out or risk their Super Bowl window slamming shut (if it hasn’t been already).
