NFL rosters have to be set at 53 players by August 30th, which means this Thursday’s preseason game in Kansas City is going to be the last opportunity for several members of this Green Bay Packers team to make their push for the final roster.

By my estimation, roughly 46-ish of the Packers’ 53 roster spots are already accounted for, but there are 14 players with a chance at making the team. Here is a closer look at who they are and where things stand.

Packers RBs Patrick Taylor and Tyler Goodson

Kylin Hill will now officially begin the season on the PUP list, which means the Packers need a third running back for a minimum of four weeks. Goodson has been impressive with the ball, averaging 4.7 yards per carry against New Orleans along with 11.3 yards per catch over the two preseason games.

Taylor hasn’t had the same success on offense, but we’ve seen him hold his own in pass protection and on special teams, making a tackle in the Packers’ most recent game. As Matt LaFleur said, special teams play will determine who RB3 is, which leads me to believe this competition is much closer than what it may initially appear.

Packers OL Caleb Jones

Nine roster spots are already accounted for by the offensive line, which is the amount of players that the Packers have kept each year at this position under LaFleur. However, with not knowing when David Bakhtiari or Elgton Jenkins will be available, the Packers could choose to keep a 10th lineman for depth.

Caleb Jones, an undrafted rookie, has taken regular snaps with the second-team offense at offensive tackle this summer. In two preseason games, he has been credited with giving up only one pressure.
