4 Big things and other notes from Packers v. Saints matchup
By Paul Bretl
Following the Green Bay Packers’ preseason matchup with the New Orleans Saints, here are the four big things that you need to know about their performance, along with a few other quick notes.
Packers QB Jordan Love really impresses
Following the Packers’ last matchup with the 49ers, many Packers fans and those who cover the team were split on Jordan Love’s performance. However, I imagine that isn’t the case following Friday night’s performance.
Once again, the box score doesn’t tell the story. Love finished the game completing 12 of 24 passes for 113 yards with a touchdown.
But what we saw as the game unfolded was a confident quarterback even when dealing with pressure. Love played in rhythm; he again did a good job of using his eyes to look off the safety, and he was decisive, which led to the ball coming out quickly and accurately.
Once again, Love had to contend with drops from his pass catchers — more on that shortly — but he threw some beautiful deep ball passes, fit the ball into some tight windows, and he was able to extend plays when the pressure got to him.
Overall, this was easily the best performance we have seen from Love throughout his career.
Now, there were some passes that I’m sure he would like to have back, particularly a few inaccurate ones in the flat. But what we want to see from Love is progress, and we definitely saw an improved player from Week 1 to Week 2 of the preseason.
