Packers 53-man roster prediction following first preseason game
By Paul Bretl
Since my last roster prediction, the Green Bay Packers have played a preseason game, and there were also some new developments on the injury front — both good and bad — that we learned about.
So, before joint practices with the New Orleans Saints kick things up a few notches this week, I thought I’d post another prediction based on what we learned.
Green Bay Packers 53-man roster prediction
Quarterback (2): Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love
Previous prediction: Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love
Nothing to see here. This is the only correct answer. Danny Etling had some memorable plays, but keeping a third quarterback on the roster makes little sense. That roster spot can be better utilized elsewhere.
Running back (3): Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, and Tyler Goodson
PUP list: Kylin Hill
Previous prediction: Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, and Patrick Taylor
Before the first preseason game, I wrote that no running back had really taken command of the competition for that RB3 role that is up for grabs until Kylin Hill returns. However, based on the playing time against San Francisco, it would appear that Goodson is the front-runner.
Goodson led the Packers running backs in both total snaps as well as carries. He has stood out in camp with the burst that he has with the ball in his hands, and he was also an effective pass-catcher at Iowa.
