The Green Bay Packers wrapped up their first preseason game of the 2022 season on Friday night out in San Francisco.

As always, there was a lot that took place, but here are the four big things from what we saw on the football field.

Jordan Love’s up and down performance for the Packers

Jordan Love played the entire first half for the Green Bay Packers, and the best way to describe it is up and down.

There were times when we saw him look off the defenders and go through his progressions. He also made a nice downfield pass to Romeo Doubs for a touchdown. He was able to extend plays and made a few completions while on the run, along with being decisive and putting some zip on the ball–something Matt LaFleur wanted to see more of this time last year.

The offense was able to move the ball as they made their way into San Francisco territory on five occasions; however, there was still some questionable decision-making and inaccurate throws. Maintaining calm and balanced feet while in the pocket has been an emphasis for Love and will continue to be. When that happens, many of the issues that pop up — most notably accuracy — will improve.

As is often the case, just looking at Love’s box score and seeing that he went 13 of 24 for 176 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions doesn’t do him justice. As LaFleur mentioned coming out of halftime, those interceptions weren’t exactly Love’s fault.

"“Basically two were drops and on the other one we had two receivers run the wrong routes,” said LaFleur via Rob Demovsky."

Just as Andy Herman of Packer Report said, this game was a good example of what Love has showcased in practice each day. There have been some flashes and impressive moments, but he is still a relatively inexperienced quarterback, which is showing.

With that said, as a Packers fan, I would be encouraged by what we saw. Yes, there are improvements to be made, but we knew that was going to be the case. Even in just watching him over two quarters, I think it’s safe to say that Love is further ahead than where he was at this time in 2021.
