The Green Bay Packers came into training camp with a number of positional battles taking place. Now eight practices in, we have an idea of which players have stood out on the practice field.

Some of the key positional battles taking place, whether that be for playing time or a roster spot, were at edge rusher, cornerback, wide receiver, and along the offensive line, to name a few.

As always, there are players trending upwards and those heading in the other direction. Here is a closer look at five players whose stock is currently on the rise.

Green Bay Packers CB Rico Gafford

The Green Bay Packers signed Rico Gafford earlier this offseason as a wide receiver, but he would convert to cornerback before offseason programs began–a position he played during his college career.

Gafford was always an intriguing player to make the roster as a special teams contributor because of his 4.22 speed, and so far, he has capitalized on those opportunities, impressing as a gunner, a jammer, along with having opportunities as a return man.

But in addition to his special teams performance, we’ve also seen Gafford come away with several pass breakups in coverage as well.

There is at least one roster spot available at cornerback if we consider Keisean Nixon and Shemar Jean-Charles as the fourth and fifth cornerbacks, with Gafford appearing to be the front-runner for that potential final spot.
