The Green Bay Packers have officially kicked off training camp this week and already have a couple of practices under their belt.

It will be interesting to see the rebuilding offense go up against the loaded defense throughout the summer, as it’s a heavily one-sided affair. However, that doesn’t mean the offense will go quietly into the night, as they already had some success on Day 1.

It’s too early to put too much stock into the results, especially without full pads, but let’s look at four players who have been pleasant surprises to start camp.

These four players on the Green Bay Packers have been pleasant surprises at the beginning of this year’s training camp.

Jack Coco

The battle at long-snapper will be an interesting one. Jack Coco was an undrafted free agent brought in to challenge the incumbent Steven Wirtel. The coaching staff is either high on Coco or low on Wirtel coming into camp, as the former got the first-team reps during both practices so far. The long snapper was a critical component of the Packers’ special team’s struggles last season and they need to get it figured out if they want to improve in 2022.

Romeo Doubbs

Green Bay needs someone–anyone–to step up at wide receiver this season. They replaced the best wide receiver in the game with a trio of rookies including fourth-round Romeo Doubbs. With Christian Watson sidelined with an injury, Doubss is off to a hot start in camp. He’s shown off his athleticism and hands, and has been able to pick up the offense quickly. So far, he looks like he could contribute sooner rather than later.

Juwann Winfree

Not to be forgotten, Juwann Winfree is still in Green Bay fighting for a roster spot. He has the added bonus of chemistry and trust with Aaron Rodgers that some of the other rookie and new guys don’t have. He’s flashed his playmaking ability during the first two days and could use that as a building block to continue to improve.

Zach Tom

The Packers are in a bad position at tackle with David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins currently on the PUP list (although, there appears to be optimism that one or both guys will be ready for the start of the regular season). That means Green Bay must find a contingency plan. Zach Tom appears to be that guy, as he’s already lined up at left tackle with the 1s. That’s a major surprise after he worked inside earlier this summer. We’ll see how the rest of his camp goes, but Green Bay is giving him a real chance to earn a starting spot on the outside.
