The Green Bay Packers took the field on Thursday for their second training camp practice of the 2022 season.

Here are the notes and takeaways from what took place at the Packers’ second training camp practice, thanks to the reporters who were in attendance.

– From Bill Huber, Matt LaFleur mentioned that there will see a lot of combinations along the offensive line this summer—which shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that versatility is the calling card of this unit.

– Matt LaFleur (via Ross Uglem) on the Packers’ young receivers, including Romeo Doubs, who had a strong first day: “Anybody can do something one day. Can you be consistent? Can you make those incremental improvements?” With that said, by all accounts, it was another excellent day for Doubs, who made several more impressive plays.

– From Ryan Wood—LaFleur would mention that Jon Runyan will see some snaps at center this summer. This, in part, is a part of the process of finding the five best offensive linemen. But also, after Josh Myers, there are some unknowns about who the backup center option will be. Zach Tom and Jake Hanson are two candidates.

– We will see how things play out, but LaFleur did say (via Ryan Wood) that Aaron Rodgers playing in the preseason is up for discussion because of the young receivers on this team. My guess is that it won’t happen—Rodgers hasn’t played in the preseason since 2018.

– Packers who did not practice today:

– As expected, we are going to see a variety of OL combinations—today from left to right with the starters were Tom – Runyan – Myers – Newman – Nijman

– The starters along the defensive front for the second day in a row include Clark, Reed, and Lowry (via Andy Herman). This will easily be the deepest IDL room that the Packers have had in a while.

– CB Kabion Ento made a nice PBU today while covering Samori Toure—via Wes Hodkiewicz. Ento has flashed the last two summers but has yet to make the 53-man roster. Last year, one big issue was his reliability as a tackler.

Bill Huber would note that Jonathan Garvin was back at practice after missing yesterday, however, La’Darius Hamilton and Tipa Galeai remained the second-string edge rushers. This season the Packers need more consistency — against both the run and the pass — from their depth edge rushers.

– Safety Shawn Davis came up with a nice PBU in the end zone on a pass from Jordan Love, as Wes Hodkiewicz would tweet. Like edge rusher, safety is another position with some unknowns around the depth, but based on what we heard at OTAs and minicamp, Davis entered camp as the front runner for the third safety role.

– Rashan Gary is off to a very fast start. After finishing second in total pressures last season, he could be in store for an even better year.

– Rookie UDFA running back Tyler Goodson made another play today, this time in the passing game. He is an experienced pass-catcher from his time at Iowa, catching 61 out of 78 targets at 8.3 yards per catch with a touchdown, per PFF ($$).

– Aaron Rodgers found Randall Cobb on third down for a touchdown against Stokes (via Wes Hodkiewicz). Cobb — along with Lazard — has been a very reliable target in the red zone as well as on third downs.

Andy Herman notes that UDFA WR Danny Davis has “acclimated himself well.” Davis is a candidate for the practice squad.
