Brewers Select Pitcher and Middle Infielder to Round Out Night 1 of Draft
By Paul Bretl
After selecting Eric Brown Jr. with their first-round selection, the Milwaukee Brewers would add an arm at pick 63 in Jacob Misiorowski and another bat at pick 72 with shortstop Robert Moore.
What to know about the Brewers’ 63rd overall pick, Jacob Misiorowski
The right-handed Misiorowski stands 6’7″ and brings the heat, hitting 100 mph on the radar gun this past season. He spent the 2022 season with Crowder Junior College, where he would make 15 starts and log 76.0 innings of work. Misiorowski would post a 2.72 ERA with 16.11 strikeouts per nine innings, along with 45 walks and only three home runs.
At MLB.com, Misiorowski was the 78th ranked prospect in this year’s draft, with him being called a “work in progress” in the scouting report. On a scale that maxes out at 80, Misiorowski received an overall grade of 50, with his fastball specifically receiving a 70 grade. His slider came in at 55 and his control at 50.
For a closer look at Misiorowski’s game, here is what his scouting report from MLB.com had to say, including that he will need to deepen his pitching repertoire:
"“Very much a work in progress, Misiorowski primarily operates with two pitches and rarely breaks out a curveball or changeup. The Louisiana State recruit still is learning to keep his long limbs in sync and he needs more strength to repeat his delivery. He started finding the zone more often down the stretch and helped his cause with the most impressive bullpen workout at the MLB Draft Combine.”"
What to know about the Brewers’ 72nd overall selection, Robert Moore
The switch-hitting Moore logged 537 at-bats over three seasons at Arkansas–although the majority of his plate appearances came over the last two. During that span, he recorded a slash line of .264/.381/.486 with 26 home runs, 36 extra-base hits, 112 strikeouts, and 91 walks.
From the 2021 season to the 2022 season, Moore saw many of his offensive stats decline, including his batting average dropping from .283 to .232 and his OPS from .942 to .801. He also hit just eight home runs in his most recent season compared to 16 the year before.
Moore received an overall grade of 45 from MLB.com, standing out as a defender, where he had a fielding grade of 60. His hit, power, run, and arm grades were all at 45, respectively.
Now for more on Moore’s game, here is a closer look at his scouting report from MLB.com:
"“A switch-hitter listed at 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds, Moore derives power from his bat speed and aggressive approach at the plate — though almost all of his pop comes from the left side. While he looks to drive the ball, he doesn’t chase pitches or swing and miss excessively. He draws a healthy amount of walks and plays quicker than his fringy speed on the bases.”"
When the MLB Draft resumes, the Brewers will be back on the clock at pick 102, then followed by pick 132.
