The Green Bay Packers continue to chip away, signing members of their 2022 draft class. The most recent official signee is seventh-round pick Rasheed Walker.

According to Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, this is a four-year deal worth around $3.74 million with an $80,873 signing bonus. Walker comes with a cap hit in 2022 of $725, 218.

The Green Bay Packers get some needed depth at the offensive tackle position.

Entering the draft, the Green Bay Packers were awfully thin at the offensive tackle position, with Yosh Nijman, David Bakhtiari, and maybe Cole Van Lanen as the only healthy options at the position.

Walker was the third offensive lineman drafted by the Packers in this year’s draft and he was also one of Green Bay’s best value selections as well. Arif Hassan of The Athletic creates his consensus big board for the draft, compiling 82 different big boards from various draft analysts. And according to Hassan’s board, Walker was the 113th-rated prospect in this year’s class, but the Packers selected him at pick 249.

Walker would measure in at 6’5″ – 313 pounds, but he didn’t do any athletic testing prior to the draft. He was also one of a few draft picks to come to Green Bay on a pre-draft visit.

Walker is an experienced player, with 32 starts as the Penn State left tackle and nearly 2,100 career snaps. In his most recent 2021 season, Walker would allow four sacks and 26 pressures per PFF ($$). In 2020, he ranked 58th out of 171 offensive tackles in PFF’s run-blocking grade.

In Dane Brugler’s draft guide, he would say that Walker has “starting potential,” but he must become “more detail-oriented to be a better-than-replaceable NFL starter.”

With Walker still potentially needing time to continue developing his game before he is ready for a starting role, he may not compete with Nijman, Sean Rhyan, and possibly Zach Tom for playing time at right tackle right away. However, he gives the Green Bay Packers another developmental prospect with upside at a key position.

Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Zach Tom are now the only three Green Bay Packers draft picks who remain unsigned.
