In need of added depth in the secondary, the Wisconsin Football program already had three players transferring in from other schools during the offseason to provide their cornerback room with a needed boost. These players were Cedrick Dort from Kentucky, along with Jay Shaw and Keontez Lewis, both from UCLA.

Now the Badger safety position has been provided with a needed addition as well, as this group currently deals with a few injuries–and if you play on the defensive side of the ball and are looking to transfer, why wouldn’t you want to join Jim Leonhard’s defense?

Wisconsin Football recently learned that Kamo’i Latu, formerly of Utah and who was recently in for a visit, would be committing to the program.

Latu is from Honolulu, Hawaii, and is a former high school teammate of current Badger Nick Herbig. According to 247Sports, Latu is a former three-star recruit with offers also from USC, Washington, and Nebraska, to name a few, coming out of high school.

Latu measures in at 6’0″ – 195 pounds and saw his first bit of playing experience in 2021 as a red-shirt freshman. He was on the field for 174 defensive snaps, according to PFF ($$), registering one pressure and three stops.

In coverage, Latu was targeted six times and allowed 13.3 yards per catch on four receptions with a pair of pass breakups. He spent the bulk of his snaps lined up as the free safety but also took some snaps lined up both in the box as well as the slot. Latu also had 96 special teams snaps as well.

Other safeties on the Wisconsin Football roster include Preston Zachman and Travian Blaylock; however, both are currently injured. The Badgers also have John Torchio, Hunter Wohler, Bryce Carey, and Owen Arnett. Four-star safety Austin Brown will also be joining the program this summer.

Latu has three years of eligibility remaining.
