Once the draft is complete, the Green Bay Packers — along with every other NFL team — will act very quickly in an effort to sign several undrafted players to their 90-man rosters.
These players won’t draw the same attention as those who are selected, but they help teams round out their rosters, and as we’ve seen on numerous occasions over the years, UDFAs can end up playing fairly significant roles as they develop.
On the Green Bay Packers’ current roster are 22 players who were not drafted. This list includes Robert Tonyan, Allen Lazard, and Krys Barnes.
There are also several other examples of players who not only became contributors, but they became key players on this Packers team. More recently, this group includes John Kuhn, Sam Shields, and Ryan Grant to name a few.
There may be instances where the Green Bay Packers want to add a few more bodies to a specific position group to help get them through training camp and the preseason, but more often than not, they are looking for players with traits that stand out–this will increase their odds of sticking around in the NFL.
While I listed off a handful of players who ended up taking on larger roles, realistically, a UDFA’s path to making the roster in their first season is going to come on special teams–and this rings especially true on the 2022 Green Bay Packers where there just aren’t many roster spots up for grabs.
With that said, in most instances, their ceiling as a rookie is the practice squad–although you never truly know until the helmets and pads come on.
Below is a list of each reported UDFA signing that the Green Bay Packers have made following the 2022 NFL Draft.
