With tons of movement around them in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers stood pat and used both of their original selections at no.’s 22 an 28 overall to draft linebacker Quay Walker and defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt, respectively.

The Georgia duo provides even more oomph for a defense that went out on a high note in the playoffs. It’s clear the Packers are planning on relying upon their defense more than ever before in 2022 (and Aaron Rodger’s arm, for that matter).

With Day 2 looming, let’s take a moment to reflect upon the first round and check out the good, the bad and hand-out grades for the Packers.

With two selections in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, let’s check out the good, the bad and the grade for the Green Bay Packers.

The Good: Defense wins championships, athleticism

The Packers shocked everyone once again when they went with two defensive players in the first round. Walker, an inside linebacker, brings elite athleticism to the position and will challenge some of the cornerbacks Green Bay has when it comes to speed. He can run sideline to sideline to bring down ball carriers.

Wyatt will provide a capable big body up front alongside Kenny Clark and free up Walker, De’Vondre Campbell and other linebackers and safeties behind him. This focus on defense will help Rodgers indirectly and relieve some of the pressure of him needing to score 30 points a game to win.

Walker and Wyatt also bring athleticism to the defense, a trait they could always use more of. Their speed is elite for their respective positions and they should be able to grow into their roles. General manager Brian Gutekunst loves to target elite athletes in the early rounds and he did so once again with each of these picks.
