Of course, we all know that the Green Bay Packers need to address the receiver position, even with the addition of Sammy Watkins, and there is plenty of that in this edition of Mock Draft Roundup & Takeaways. However, other positions that Green Bay could target early on in the draft include edge rusher, interior defensive lineman, safety, tight end, and offensive tackle.

To get an idea of which direction the Packers could go with their first few picks, here is who several draft analysts have Green Bay selecting in some recent mock drafts, along with my thoughts and takeaways.

Round 1: Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State and Bernhard Raimann, OT, Central Michigan

Round 2: Greg Dulcich, TE, UCLA and David Ojabo, Edge, Michigan

Round 3: Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati

Takeaway: From a thresholds standpoint, neither first-round pick meets the typical requirements that the Green Bay Packers have. Dotson is smaller and didn’t test all that well, while Raimann will turn 25 during his rookie season. Since 2015, only one first-round pick by Green Bay has been older than 21, and going back to 2009, the oldest first-round prospects have been 22.

Rounds 2 and 3 do get better, however. It’s difficult to gauge where the tight ends are going to fall, and maybe Dulcich could be available in Round 3, but I love the pick for Green Bay. Josiah Deguara is the only TE under contract in 2023, and Dulcich brings some playmaking to the position, averaging over 18 yards per catch, he’s a willing blocker, although he can still improve, and UCLA moved him around quite a bit. I also believe that landing Ojabo at pick 59 is a very good value selection. If he can regain his old form following his injury, this pick will be a steal.

Lastly, Alec Pierce just feels like a Green Bay Packers pick. Good size, he tested very well, and he would provide this offense with a needed downfield threat, but that’s certainly not all he can do, with about a third of his targets this past season coming within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, according to PFF ($$).
