1 Draft Prospect to Know at Each Position of Need for Green Bay Packers
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers Need: Vertical Threat
Christian Watson, WR, NDSU
Replacing the vertical threat lost with Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s departure is a must for the Packers, not only for the big play ability but also with what that element can create for others in the passing game with better spacing. Watson could assume that role right away in Green Bay.
He’s a big-bodied receiver, who tested incredibly well at the combine–two important aspects to the Green Bay Packers. During his career at NDSU, Watson averaged 21.3 yards per catch, and while right away winning downfield may be his primary responsibility, he can offer more than that with his ability to line up in the backfield, as a return man, not to mention that he is a willing run-blocker as well.
Green Bay Packers Need: Go-to option on the boundary
Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State
As the receiver room is currently constructed, if the Packers selected Chris Olave, he would be the guy in this offense from Day 1. He is considered one of the best route runners in this class, able to create passing windows on his own accord, and Green Bay would also be able to move him around the formation in search of the best matchup. Olave was a very reliable pass-catcher at Ohio State, catching nearly 70% of his career targets; he comes with playmaking abilities and can win in all three levels of the field.
