Without Davante Adams, the Green Bay Packers are in desperate need of addressing the wide receiver position.

At the moment, the wide receiver room is made up of Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers, Allen Lazard, Malik Taylor, Juwann Winfree, Chris Blair, and Rico Gafford. In addition to just simply needing to elevate the depth of this position, specifically, the Packers need a vertical threat along with someone who can be a high volume target, not to mention that some YAC ability wouldn’t hurt either.

However, the free-agent market is slowly growing thinner by the day, and it’s not as if it was that strong at the receiver position, to begin with. In fact, there is no full-proof solution at this point, and Green Bay may be better off exploring who is available via trade.

Equipped with four picks in the top-60, the Green Bay Packers have the draft capital to land some high-end talent early on. But there is certainly plenty of value in bringing in a veteran as well. A veteran would provide stability to a position that could certainly use it and someone to lean on as the rookies get acclimated to the NFL level as well as working with Aaron Rodgers.

In terms of the salary cap, while the Packers do have cap space after trading Adams, which has allowed them to make a few additions, it’s not as if they have an abundance of room either.

Currently, Over the Cap has Green Bay at $17.8 million in available cap space–although that figure does not yet take into account Robert Tonyan’s contract or Jarran Reed’s. There are also other unaccounted for expenses such as the draft class–meaning cost is still absolutely a factor.

So with all of that in mind, the Green Bay Packers need at the receiver position, the value in adding a veteran, and the salary cap, let’s take a look at who is still available on the free-agent market.

Julio Jones

Although Julio Jones is no longer at the height of his powers, he can still step into this Green Bay Packers offense and be “the guy” right away–winning in all three parts of the field. Jones will also be somewhat familiar with Matt LaFleur’s offense from their time together in Atlanta when Kyle Shanahan was the Falcons’ play-caller.

Over the last two seasons, he has caught 71% of his passes at 14.7 yards per catch. Unfortunately, the issue has been staying on the field. Over that same two-year span, Jones has played in just 19 games.
