6 explosive wide receivers for Packers to target in 2022 NFL Draft
The Green Bay Packers’ 2022 NFL Draft suddenly got a lot more exciting with the addition of another first and second-round picks (unfortunately, if it came at the cost of Davante Adams). That means the Packers have even more opportunities to fill a wide receiver position group that is severely lacking at this point in the offseason.
With Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers, and Allen Lazard currently the Packers’ top three receivers, they’re in desperate need of some speed and athleticism at the position. Let’s take a look at six wide receivers who will go at various points in the 2022 NFL Draft and would add great speed and explosiveness to Green Bay’s pass-catchers.
The Green Bay Packers desperately need to add some explosion to their wide receiver group and can do so with any of these six 2022 NFL Draft picks.
Explosive wide receiver for Packers to target in draft: Isaiah Weston, Norther Iowa
It’s unlikely that Isaiah Weston gets selected in the draft, but he’d be a good undrafted free agent candidate for Green Bay to sign. He’s got very good size at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds and has the athleticism to match. He has a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 9.99 (10 is the max) that includes a 4.42 second 40-yard dash and a 40-inch vertical. He’s a freak athlete who gives Green Bay something they don’t already have on the roster.
Explosive wide receiver for Packers to target in draft: Tyquan Thornton, Baylor
Tyquan Thornton is another big body receiver that will be available on Day 3 of the draft. He’s 6-foot-3 and definitely in need of putting on some muscle at a wiry 182 pounds. He finished his collegiate career on a high note with 62 receptions for 948 yards and 10 touchdowns–all career-highs.
The best trait he brings to the field is his blazing-fast speed. He ran a 4.28 second 40-yard dash and combined that with a great broad jump as well. That speed could be utilized in both a vertical and horizontal fashion in Matt LaFleur’s offense. If he lasts until the seventh round (Green Bay doesn’t have a sixth-rounder), the Packers would be wise to take a chance on him.
