The Green Bay Packers received some exciting news on Tuesday when Aaron Rodgers announced he was returning for another season and working out a contract extension with the team. Now that leaves a big question mark for Jordan Love’s future.

Love was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft when Green Bay moved up to the 26th pick to select him. Since then, Rodgers has won back-to-back MVPs and has been locked in a battle with the Packers’ front office regarding his future.

With Rodgers and the front office repairing their relationship over the last year, there is a contract extension on the horizon. So then what should the Packers do with Love? They definitely shouldn’t trade him.

The Green Bay Packers received a commitment from Aaron Rodgers, but that doesn’t mean they should turn around and trade Jordan Love.

Reason Packers should not trade Jordan Love: Injury/retirement protection

Rodgers took well over a month to decide his future this season and there’s no saying how much longer he’ll play for. Despite saying he’s going to be signing a contract extension, he could walk away from the game in the coming years before Love’s rookie contract is up (more on those details later).

For that reason and for injury protection, Green Bay should keep Love. He had one start last season and could’ve been a lot better, however, the Packers don’t have any better options on their current roster. It’s important to keep him around because who knows what the future will hold.
