The Green Bay Packers are doing what they can to make sure four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers plays the 2022 season in the green and gold.

The Packers are reportedly ready to offer Rodgers a big-money contract extension. The Green Bay Packers are bringing back Tom Clements as quarterback coach. He was Rodgers’ quarterback coach from 2006 to 2011. Clements is the coach Rodgers gives the most credit to developing him into the great quarterback he is today.

Aaron Rodgers has been saying all the right things when it comes to his relationship being repaired with the front office. Still, one of the sides could wake up tomorrow and decide it is best to divorce and go separate ways.

In that situation, the Green Bay Packers will have to trade Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers restructured Rodgers’ contract last season. It allowed for him to be an unrestricted free agent after this upcoming season. Also, the Packers can gain about $20 million in salary-cap space if he is moved according to Overthecap.com.

The heavy favorite to acquire Rodgers’ is the Denver Broncos. The Broncos hired former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, to be their head coach. Denver was one of the three teams Rodgers wanted to be traded to last offseason when he demanded a trade. They are desperate for a quarterback and have already reportedly called Green Bay to see if Rodgers is available–although no one is answering the call.

The Green Bay Packers could get a healthy return if they trade Aaron Rodgers.

Last offseason, Sports Illustrated writer Albert Breer thought the Packers could get a couple of first and second-round picks plus some players in a trade. That was when Rodgers was only a three-time MVP quarterback.

Now that he is a four-time MVP and still playing at a high level, playoffs excluded, the Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst can demand a huge haul. Even though Rodgers is 38, he is still great enough to win a team a division with even modest talent around him. If he can overcome his playoff demons, he can even take a team to the Super Bowl.

Gutenkunst can ask any team calling about Rodgers what they are willing to pay to contend for a Super Bowl.

The market for quarterbacks with fewer accolades has usually been two first-round picks. The Los Angeles Rams sent two first-round picks, a third-rounder, and Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions for Matthew Stafford. The Chicago Bears gave up two first-round picks in 2009 to acquire Jay Cutler after his Pro Bowl season.

If a team is willing to give up two picks for Stafford and Cutler, the minimal draft-pick compensation Gutekunst should ask for is three first-round picks, a couple of mid-round picks, and maybe a player or two back.

Rodgers can hurt some of the Packers’ leverage if he says he will only go to Denver. If the Packers trade for Rodgers, a team is going to want him to sign an extension.

Let’s just say Rodgers demands a trade but gives Gutekunst free reign to get the best deal possible. In that case, there are eight other teams Gutekunst should listen to or call regarding a trade offer.
