There has been quite a bit of turnover this offseason among the Green Bay Packers coaching staff, to say the least. If you’ve missed anything, here is a rundown of what’s taken place so far.

– OC Nathaniel Hackett is the Denver Broncos head coach.

– Former QB coach/passing game coordinator Luke Getsy is the Chicago Bears OC.

– TE coach Justin Outten will be Denver’s OC.

– OL coach Adam Stenavich has been promoted to Green Bay Packers’ OC.

– WR coach Jason Vrable will now also be the passing game coordinator.

– Rich Bisaccia was hired as special teams coordinator.

– Bryan Storer is hired as the assistant special teams coach.

– Assistant OL coach Luke Butkus was promoted to OL coach.

– Connor Lewis became the assistant QB coach.

– Ryan Mahaffey is now the assistant OL coach.

After all of that movement, there was still one opening left to be filled at QB coach. But according to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the Packers will be hiring Tom Clements to fill that role.

If that name sounds familiar, it should. Clements spent over a decade on the Green Bay Packers coaching staff under Mike McCarthy.

From 2006 to 2011, Clements was the QB coach. Then from 2012 to 2014, he took over as offensive coordinator. And from 2015 to 2016, he was the assistant head coach.

After a few years out of the NFL, Clements was with Arizona as their QB coach/passing game coordinator from 2019 to 2020. After not coaching last season, the 68-year-old Clements is coming out of retirement and is now back with Green Bay—perhaps to work with a certain quarterback?

With this hiring, it’s also very important to note that Clements worked very closely with Aaron Rodgers during his coaching tenure and he has been credited with helping Rodgers develop in his early years. The four-time MVP has often spoken very highly of Clements.

According to Wilson’s report, league sources have told him that “Clements’ addition is expected to be welcomed highly by quarterback Aaron Rodgers as he contemplates his future.”

Rodgers is yet to have made a decision publicly on what he will do for the 2022 season, but a decision is expected to be announced in the next few weeks prior to free agency taking place.
