Current Status of the Green Bay Packers 2022 Roster
By Paul Bretl
Given that we don’t know what the future holds for Aaron Rodgers and that the Green Bay Packers find themselves in a salary-cap crunch, at nearly $51 million over the projected salary cap, according to Over the Cap, this is a roster that could look a bit different in 2022.
There will be some cap casualties in an effort to create that needed cap space; the question, however, is who will those players be?
As we’ve discussed before, when it comes to the salary cap, it’s all about give and take. If the Packers want a player back, they can make it happen, but what corresponding move has to take place to create that cap space? Or now what move can’t they make because of the re-signing?
On top of that, the Packers also have 23 free agents, who either fall into the exclusive rights, restricted, or unrestricted categories. Of course, they all won’t be back.
The Green Bay Packers have a long ways to go before they’ve filled their 90-man roster for training camp, not to mention that free agency and the draft will play big roles in reshaping this roster as well.
