Following a four-game series loss to the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS, the Milwaukee Brewers are looking to get over the edge this offseason by upgrading their inconsistent offense. That could mean pursuing a big name or two in free agency.

Obviously, Milwaukee isn’t in a financial place to chase the top free agents such as Carlos Correa, Corey Seager or Freddie Freeman. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t target other big names in search of offensive upgrades. If they do swing for the fences, it will most likely be one of these four players they target in free agency.

If the Milwaukee Brewers are going to make a big name free agent signing this offseason, it will most likely be one of these four players.

Big-name free agents Brewers most likely to sign: Nelson Cruz, DH

The Brewers and Nelson Cruz go way back to 2005 when Cruz made his MLB debut for a very brief period. He’s since traveled around the league and has re-established himself as a legit hitter over the latter part of his career.

The only way Milwaukee would make this deal is when the designated hitter position becomes a rule for the entire MLB. Cruz would fit in nicely in that spot and give Milwaukee some power in the middle of their lineup. He’s belted at least 32 home runs and 86 RBIs in each of the last seven full seasons.
