Green Bay Packers v. Kansas City: 3 Keys to Victory with Jordan Love
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers Key to Victory No. 3: Win the Turnover Battle
Again, I’m not suggesting that any of these keys to victory are groundbreaking by any means, but with a young quarterback making his first NFL start, they’re particularly important.
This has been a very opportunistic Green Bay Packers’ defense this season, forcing 14 turnovers through eight games, which is the third-most in football this season. And over their seven-game win streak, the defense has forced at least two turnovers in six of those games.
Kansas City, on the other hand, has been very generous at giving the ball away. They lead the NFL in giveaways with 19–the next closes team is at 15 and interceptions from Mahomes account for 10 of those turnovers. Based on how this season has gone so far, this Chiefs offense is going to give Green Bay an opportunity or two at turning the ball over and they must capitalize.
As I mentioned in the previous section, turnovers will help keep the Kansas City offense on the sidelines, keep points off the board, and allow Green Bay to control the time of possession. It will also give this Packers offense an extra opportunity or two, which will likely be needed–odds are this group won’t be as efficient scoring the ball with Love at quarterback, so any extra possession will be important when it comes to putting up enough points.
