After helping the Milwaukee Bucks win their first championship in 50 years, Bucks general manager Jon Horst has signed a long-term extension to stay in Milwaukee, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Horst had one year remaining on his deal, but is now set to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks organization for the foreseeable future.

Horst served as the Manager of Basketball Operations for the Detroit Pistons for one year before coming to the Bucks where he was the Director of Basketball Operations for 13 years.

In the summer of 2017, Horst took over for John Hammond as general manager in a surprising move that not many expected. Since then, Horst has proven that he is one of the best general managers in the NBA, and has won the NBA Executive of the Year award after the 2018-2019 season.

Since becoming general manager, some of Horst’s most defining moves include the hiring of Mike Budenholzer, the signing of Brook Lopez, the trade for Jrue Holiday, and the acquisition of PJ Tucker, all of whom helped the Milwaukee Bucks win the NBA Finals this past year.

The strong resume that Horst has as a general manager helped give Giannis Antetokounmpo the confidence that he could win in Milwaukee, with Antetokounmpo signing the supermax to stay with the Bucks.

All in all, it is a well deserved extension for Jon Horst. He has proven that he is one of the best executives in the league and there is no reason to believe he will not be for the coming years.

Over the summer and following the Bucks Championship win, coach Mike Budenholzer signed a contract extension of his own. It is a three year extension that will run through the 2024-2025 NBA season.

The Milwaukee Bucks 2021-2022 season begins on October 19th at Fiserv Forum against the Brooklyn Nets.
