Packers early trade deadline candidates: Find a way

Byron Jones, CB, Miami

Xavien Howard, CB, Miami

Joe Haden, CB, Pittsburgh

Brandin Cooks, WR, Houston

Whitney Mercilus, OLB, Houston

Clelin Ferrell, OLB, Las Vegas

None of these players are perfect fits for a trade, but general manager Brian Gutekunst should find a way to make a deal happen for one of these guys.

Jones, Howard, and Haden would help bridge the gap until Jaire Alexander is (hopefully) ready to return. Jones and Haden are veterans with plenty left in the tank. The latter likely won’t be available unless Pittsburgh goes the rebuilding route before the deadline. Trading for Howard would be a homerun swing if there ever was one. He’s one of the better corners in the NFL and would be a great rental replacement for Alexander.

Cooks has already bounced around throughout his NFL career, but continues to put up great numbers wherever he goes. Houston needs to restock their draft picks so why not entice them with a few to add a second legit wide receiver? Lastly, Mericlus and Ferrell would be upgrades over the backup outside linebackers the Packers currently have and would allow Gary and Smith to move inside from time to time.
