Just before training camp began, the Milwaukee Bucks made it official and signed two familiar faces to their training camp roster on non-guaranteed deals–Elijah Bryant and Johnny O’Bryant.

Elijah Bryant was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks just days prior to the team re-signing him after he spent the latter part of the 2020-2021 season in Milwaukee.

Prior to joining the Bucks, Bryant was playing overseas with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he appeared in 52 games, tallying 11.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

Bryant appeared in one regular-season game with the Bucks last season, playing 32 minutes while logging 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists. In the playoffs, he appeared in 11 games in mop-up duty, averaging 4.5 minutes, 1.3 points, and 1.1 rebounds per game.

By waiving Bryant initially, it gave Milwaukee more flexibility as his original contract was guaranteed. Now, that is no longer the case, but it is clear that the Bucks do like what they have in the 26-year-old Bryant, whether that’s at the end of the bench or possibly in a developmental role with the Oshkosh Herd.

Johnny O’Bryant was a second-round pick by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2014 and spent two seasons with the team. During that span, he would average 12.3 minutes per contest along with 3.0 points per game on 39.5 percent shooting and 2.4 rebounds.

After leaving the Bucks, he would bounce around with a few NBA teams before heading overseas to play internationally. In three seasons across the pond with four different teams, O’Bryant would record 11.1 points per game on 40.8 percent shooting, with 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists over 22.5 minutes.

The addition of the 6’9″ – 258-pound O’Bryant gives the Milwaukee Bucks some needed depth in the frontcourt.

If — and I stress the word “if” — either player were to make the Bucks roster this season, neither would likely be relied upon heavily.
