According to the Green Bay Packers themselves, interior defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster — who is coming off one of the better games he’s had in some time — has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The second move that the Green Bay Packers made was signing Tyler Davis off the Indianapolis practice squad and on to the 53-man roster.

Davis was a sixth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by Jacksonville. He spent his first three years at UCONN and his final year at Georgia Tech.

During his college career, Davis caught 65 percent of his 98 targets, according to PFF ($$), for 637 yards, at 10.0 yards per catch, along with eight touchdowns.

For what it’s worth, by PFF’s grading system, Davis graded out as an “average” blocker over his college career. He also was an experienced special teams player coming out of Georgia Tech and UCONN with 408 career snaps.

At the NFL level, the 6’4” – 250 pound Davis has 40 career snaps on offense — all of which came in 2020 with Jacksonville — with two targets and no receptions. He does have 75 special teams snaps as well.

This past preseason with the Jaguars, Davis caught five of his six targets for 34 yards and a touchdown.

For a closer look at Davis’ game, here is what NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein had to say about the tight end in his 2020 draft profile:

"“Tight end with adequate height, weight and speed, but lacking the route savvy of a pass-catching option or the toughness of an in-line blocker. Davis is a quarterback turned receiver turned tight end who plays a more finesse-oriented brand of football. He will struggle to uncover in and out of breaks and needs to stay on the move in the passing game. He’s a positional blocker who has trouble sustaining at an NFL level.”"

With the Green Bay Packers already having Marcedes Lewis, Robert Tonyan, and Josiah Deguara at the tight end position, fans shouldn’t expect to see Davis on the field taking snaps with the offense.

He does, however, provide added depth at the tight end position with Dominique Dafney on IR. Although Bronson Kaufusi is a practice squad candidate, as a former defensive end in the early stages of converting to the tight end position, he is likely nowhere near ready for game action.

I will also add that there is the possibility that we could see Davis on the special teams unit once he becomes acclimated.

With Lancaster on the reserve/COVID list and the addition of Davis, the Green Bay Packers roster still sits at 52 players.
