Packers’ dramatic victory over 49ers: The good, the bad, the grade
Packers’ dramatic victory over 49ers: The Bad: Officiating, coaches relationships, Defense getting off the field
Both teams probably have reason to complain about the officiating and for good reason. There were a few defensive pass interference calls that went both ways that had fans reeling. There was also a time in the game when it looked like the whistle wasn’t going to go Green Bay’s way, including a no-call on the vicious hit over the middle that knocked Adams out of the game for a play.
Moving back to the actual game, it appears LaFleur and Shannahan’s relationship has taken a turn for the worse. Shannahan has played some shenanigans on LaFleur in the past including not allowing him to hire his brother as his offensive coordinator and then taking a stab at his quarterback over the offseason. It turns out LaFleur’s quarterback is off-limits no matter who you are.
The defense had plenty of opportunities to ice the game on the 49ers’ final drive, but couldn’t get off the dang field. They forced San Francisco into a third-and-10 on the 49ers 25, but gave up a 39-yard pass to George Kittle over the middle. Three plays later they forced San Fran into another third-and-long and watched them convert again. One the day, they converted seven of their 11 third-down opportunities and kept Green Bay’s defense on the field much longer than they had to be.
