Final Predictions

Matt LeVene (1-1)

This primetime Week 3 matchup between two of the NFC’s best will be an excellent test for the Packers team. The Green and Gold have notoriously struggled against Kyle Shannahan’s 49ers teams under third-year head coach Matt LaFleur. In this contest, we will get to see just how good the Pack are.

Winning the line of scrimmage and establishing a run game will be the Packers’ key to victory on the offensive end. With game wreckers littered throughout the 49er defense, a depleted Green Bay offensive line will be tested for the entirety of the game. Guys will need to ride the momentum from Week 2 and step up if they want to leave Santa Clara victorious.

On defense, it is many of the same storylines as it is every week for the Green Bay Packers. Stopping the run, getting pressure on the QB, and not giving up the big plays will be imperative. I am looking for Kenny Clark to get going, to start performing like the force of nature he is. If Clark dismantles the 49er run game at the line of scrimmage, and Kevin King doesn’t let up explosive plays, they have a chance.

I think this is a close one-possession game. I trust Aaron Rodgers, so I am riding with Green Bay in this one.

Prediction: Packers 27- 49ers 24

Paul Bretl (1-1)

There are already several things going against the Green Bay Packers before they even take the field—it’s a short week, a west coast trip where they’ve struggled, and this will be their first true road test since the 2019 NFC Championship game.

On the field, the offensive line will get a shake-up without Elgton Jenkins and Green Bay will be up against a very good Niners pass rush.

On the other side of the ball, I see Kyle Shanahan giving this Joe Barry defense fits with Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, and we can expect a heavy dose of the run game, which I’m not sure the Packers can stop.

Everything I’ve just described is a recipe for a loss. For Green Bay to have a chance, as is often the case, they’ll need to win in the trenches—establishing the run on offense and slowing the San Francisco run game. But the 49ers win this one.

Prediction: Packers 24 – 49ers 34
